Introduction

Skagen AiR is an artist-in-residence programme in Skagen, Denmark, for professional Nordic artists irrespective of art form. Applications are welcomed from all professional Nordic artists who have completed a relevant educational art programme or have documented experience from a professional artistic context.

Skagen AiR invites professional artists from Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, and Denmark to participate in a twelve-week art residency programme at the Art Museums of Skagen at the northernmost part of Denmark.

The residency offers Nordic artists the opportunity to develop new and valuable relations with the community in Skagen and experience the unique nature and the history of the artist colony that existed here. Studio facilities and accommodation, as well as a travel grant and a monthly allowance, are included in the programme.

The aim of Skagen AiR

The aim of the programme is to foster exchanges between the resident artist and the local businesses community, the surrounding nature, the people of Skagen, and fellow residing artists, and to support the artistic process and research phase of the resident artist by giving them time, space, and opportunity for reflection and focus.

The residency offers Nordic artists the opportunity to develop new and valuable relations with the community in Skagen and the unique nature and the history of the artist colony that originates here for the benefit of the regional art scene and Nordic contemporary art in general.

 

The Residency Program Includes

A twelve-week residency in Skagen, Denmark.

Studio facilities oozing history and artistic spirit.

Accommodation in an inspiring and creative environment.

Individually help to connect to the local community and to support artistic research and practice.

A monthly allowance of € 1400/DKK 10,500 to cover living expenses, local transport, and the cost of materials and production.

The resident artist is obliged to give an artist talk, participate in social events, and organise an open studio event.

 

Reporting and Expectations

As the aim of the residency includes exchange and network development, we expect resident artists to be outward-looking and have an open approach and attitude. For example, by participating in artist talks, being active on social media, and becoming actively involved in the local community.

Evaluation of your stay is also part of the residency programme.
