Artist talk
Artist talk: Skagen AiR x Skal Contemporary
Skagen AiR x Skal Contemporary
Participants: Ollie Hermansson, Andrea Jespersen
Moderator: Anne Møller Christensen, Skal Contemporary
This artist talk focused on introducing the Skagen AiR format, the participating artists' practices, and putting these in the context of Skagen's Art Museums. Through the conversation, the two artists introduced their artistic work; which, among other things, takes the form of cross-media and interdisciplinary studies in relation to the sea and communities by the sea, as well as participatory performances that work with issues related to gender and identity. The conversation also focused on questions of exchange between places and times, including how the artists' first impressions of arriving in Skagen were expressed, they also related to being on a residency at a museum with an art historical context, which gave rise to an interesting joint reflection on the importance of the Skagen artists in the context of a wider European and global art history, and a conversation about how in a national context one attaches great importance to it in relation to a national narrative and self-understanding, which may not necessarily leave a big mark in the context of contemporary art.
